Our misson

Anything worth learning is worth doing badly. At first. Here at the Owlry we recognize that the mistakes people make are the most valuable thing they have in learning how to make fewer mistakes in the future. Mistakes reveal where we have glitches in our understanding so that we can target and address them.

In 2020, when students were suddenly faced with taking much more responsibility for learning on their own, we built an automated platform to guide students through how to use tests as diagnostics, analyzing their mistakes in order to identify and target their points of confusion. We used our platform to work with students directly as well as partnering with BreakthroughNYC to bring our “Mistake Centered Active Exploration” approach to bear on specific learning goals, including AP STEM courses and college entrance exams. Please feel free to reach out if you are interested in our approach!

OUR APPROACH

Our technology is structured around a Mistake Centered Active Exploration (MCAE) approach that makes students stewards of their own learning process, guiding them to figure out for themselves what they need to learn and then curating the right content to help them learn it.

LEARNING AGENCY: By actively designing their own learning paths, students develop agency in the ability to move from novice to mastery, building “learn how to learn” skills to carry forward in the rest of their education.

LEARNING CURATION: Student insights surface metadata that goes beyond what they get right and wrong to revealing why. This enables better curation of instructional content to their particular learning needs
